The Kherki Daula toll plaza would be shifted to Panchgaon, near Bilaspur, before March 2019, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced on Monday.
The shifting of the toll plaza has been a key demand of the residents of New Gurugram and industrialists in Manesar, who claim that it has become a bottleneck causing traffic congestion .
The chief minister asserted that the state government was committed to solve the problem of traffic jams at the toll as well as along the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. According to officials privy to the matter, the plan is to get a toll plaza functional at the new location by January next year.
The chief minister visited Gurugram for the launch of Vikas Geet, a CD of songs, highlighting the achievements of his government.
The Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, which began its operation in January 2008 was a project based on built-operate-transfer mechanism.
“Shifting of the Kherki Daula is the priority of the government, as it will reduce traffic jams. We are working on this and the toll will be shifted before March 2019,” said Khattar.
The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has been tasked with acquiring land at Panchgaon.
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had issued a termination notice to the current concessionaire of the expressway, the Millennium City Expressway Private Limited(MCEPL). The private firm had challenged the decision in the court but is likely to settle it through arbitration. Experts said that this would lead to financial settlement between the two sides, paving the way for the NHAI to take over the toll plaza operations.
Khattar also announced that work on the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, which has missed almost eight deadlines, will start from the first week of November. “The work on the Dwarka Expressway will start from next month, close to Diwali. We have written a letter to the prime minister’s office(PMO), regarding a date for the foundation stone-laying ceremony,” he said, adding that this would be a “Diwali gift” to the people.
Khattar also said that KundliManesar section of the KundliManesar-Palwal Expressway would also be inaugurated in the first week of November. The 53-km-long Kundli-Manesar section would complete the entire loop from Palwal to Kundli, and play a key role in diverting commercial traffic, which earlier had to enter Gurugram and Delhi for travelling to other north Indian states.
